Move over, Jefferson Avenue. The next St. Paul bikeway / bike boulevard on the horizon is along Griggs Street, and the public will get to weigh in tonight (Oct. 3) -- and again on Oct. 9 and Oct. 11 -- on ways to tweak the street to be more bicycle friendly.

Tonight's meeting takes place from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at the Dunning Recreation Center, 1221 Marshall Ave.

Here's a description from the city web site:

The Griggs Street Bikeway is a project funded through the federal Non-Motorized Transportation Pilot Program (for $362,000) to provide improved bicycle and pedestrian accommodations on Griggs Street. Existing bike routes on Summit and Minnehaha will be connected via the improved Griggs route. As recommended in the Bike Walk Central Corridor Action Plan, Griggs Street will serve as a regional route and as an alternative to Lexington Parkway.

There's a public survey and other information from the city here, and a broader set of links to the citywide bike plan and other bike resources here.

Here's the upcoming public meetings:
Griggs Street Bikeway: Public meetings on October 3 (7:00 - 8:30pm, Dunning Recreation Center), October 9 (1:00-2:00pm, Intersection of Griggs Street & Summit Avenue), and October 11 (7:00 - 8:30pm, Dunning Recreation Center).
